How to Gain Access to the HTML

Two separate programs are available to meet the needs of U.S. industry, academia, and federal agencies wishing to gain access to the HTML.

The HTML User Program functions to help researchers from industry and colleges/universities solve materials problems using state-of-the-art characterization instrumentation. Either non-proprietary or proprietary research can be performed.

Non-proprietary research may be performed free of charge if the user publishes the information produced in an open-literature, referred journal. If an  HTML staff member works with the user, the paper should be co-authored by the staff member.  Proprietary research requires advance payment, and does not require publication of results. In either case, the user works on-site with the HTML staff performing the required research.

Researchers who wish to participate in the user program must first submit a research proposal on our user proposal form, which can be obtained on this web site.

The Work for Others Program allows companies proprietary access to HTML facilities, without the requirement for company staff working in residence at HTML. Other federal agencies may also access the HTML through this program. Advanced payment, based on full cost recovery, is required.
