 Applications

Materials studied include structural ceramics, thermal barrier coatings, superalloys, ceramic and metal matrix composites, superconducting materials, ceramic precursors, glasses, carbon materials, and carbon fiber composites.

The facilities are used to study thermal properties of insulators and high conductivity specimens. Both bulk specimens, coatings, and thin film materials can be characterized.

To provide essential data for modeling of solidification process capabilities have been developed to measure the thermophysical properties of metals from above the melting point down to room temperature.

An exceptional IR camera has been productively used for stop action temperature snapshots, thermal properties mapping, and non-destructive examination.

On the specific instrument pages you will find furthur comments about the temperature range, environment for measurement, and specific applications of that instrument.
