The
purpose of this conference is to provide a technical briefing on the
research projects supported by the Advanced Research Materials Program
of the U.S. Department of Energys Office of Fossil Energy. Summaries
of the latest results will be provided from each of these projects,
either by oral or poster presentations. The projects are grouped by
purpose into sessions on: (1) Functional Materials, featuring materials
for hydrogen-separation membranes; and advanced gas-separation materials;
(2) New Alloys; (3) Coatings and Protection of Materials; and (4) Breakthroughs
in Materials Performance and Reliability, featuring approaches for materials
with temperature capabilities beyond current alloys; and materials for
increased reliability in combustion/gasification environments. Session
(2), New Alloys, will be presented as posters, grouped to show the support
provided for alloys for ultra-supercritical steam applications; oxide
dispersion-strengthened alloys; and corrosion testing in coal-fired
environments. The conference is scheduled to begin at noon on June 2nd,
and to be completed by lunchtime on June 4th, and is intended to provide
opportunities to ask questions about the projects, and to meet and interact
with the principal investigators from all of the projects, as well as
the relevant program managers from the U.S. Department of Energy and
the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. We invite representatives from industry
to attend the conference to learn about recent progress in these topic
areas, and we would welcome their comments on the directions and focus
of the work presented, and its relevance to their needs.
