Development Of Ceramic Membranes For Hydrogen Separation |
|||||||||||||||||
|
The purpose of this project is to develop an efficient separation system that can separate hydrogen from other gases in coal-derived synthesis gas. |

| The
system which has been developed consists of a porous membrane of a ceramic
material.
The nature of the material is such that molecules of hydrogen - which are significantly smaller than molecules of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrocarbon gases - pass through the porous material and away from other gases. The ability to separate and collect hydrogen for use as fuel for fuel cells or for use in petroleum refinery catalytic crackers will greatly add to the economical benefits of integrated gasification combined cycle systems. |
