The Advanced Microscopy Laboratory
Building-within-building design

Instrument rooms (left) inside the primary building

Three of the four instrument rooms have the cast concrete ceiling panels in place. The fourth (nearest) room is still open. The nearest primary building exterior wall had not been completed at this time allowing us to see inside.
This construction design helps mitigate:
  • External wind pressure effects
  • Outside noise
  • Temperature control and uniformity
  • Floor vibration to a small degree

Equipment chase in rear of building

The exterior building wall is on the left. The building-within-building instrument labs are on the right. Note the large doors between the labs and the chase. New microscopes will be transported along the chase and enter the labs through these doors.
