EXPERIENCE

1997 to Present - Task Leader, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Heavy-Section Steel Irradiation Program, ORNL

1992 to 1997 - Assignment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for Oak Ridge Associated Universities. Engaged in studies as one of the task leaders for the Heavy-Section Steel Irradiation Program sponsored by the NRC

1982 to 1992 - Russian National Research Center, "Kurchatov Institute," Reactor Materials Division; originally as associate Researcher and later as Senior Research Scientist. Studied the effect of radiation exposure on the mechanical properties of reactor vessel steels; specific tasks included investigation of the effect of annealing on the recovery of materials properties of the steel. Took part in almost all annealing of VVER-440 vessels in Russia and Eastern Europe as scientific supervisor.

1991 to 1992 - Associate Professor (docent) at Moscow Institute of Engineering and Physics (part- time). Taught graduating students on investigation of mechanical properties of irradiated materials.

SCOPE OF RESEARCH

Studying the effects of radiation exposure on degradation of mechanical properties, fracture toughness and microstructure of low-alloyed steels

Establishing of temperature-time recipe for thermal annealing beneficial for recovery of irradiated reactor pressure vessel steels

Exploring the applicability of nonstandard specimen and/or technique to characterization of fracture toughness and mechanical properties of irradiated steels

Fracture toughness studies of low-alloy pressure vessel steels to provide engineering data for structural integrity assessments of nuclear reactor vessels
