Research Interests:

Dr. David heads the Materials Joining Group. The groups’ projects range from the fundamental aspects of welding and NDT, including modeling of processes, process-microstructure-properties relationships to applied technologies. His current research activities include solidification behavior of welds, welding of intermetallic alloys, phase stability, process modeling residual stresses in weldments and friction stir welding. He has contributed to over 300 papers in these fields and has organized and edited several international conferences and conference proceedings, respectively. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal "Science and Technology of Welding and Joining" published by the Institute of Materials London. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Colorado School of Mines and the University of Pittsburgh.
