Research Interests:
Dr. Vitek's research interests include the study of phase transformation behavior in a range of materials, including stainless steels, nickel-base superalloys, and aluminum alloys. His emphasis is on solidification behavior and solid-state transformation behavior in welded materials. Recent activities have included modeling of phase transformation behavior using computational thermodynamics and kinetics. His modeling activities have also included the application of artificial neural networks to welding problems, including weld pool shape prediction and improved ferrite number prediction. He has organized and served as proceedings editor for several international conferences. He has contributed to over 150 technical papers in the field of welding metallurgy and phase transformation behavior.
